Surfskate

It all started one quiet summer in Venice, California in 1995. Greg Falk and Neil Carver had been surfing all winter, and were pumped to surf the warmer waters of the Breakwater during the long days of summer, but it was as flat as a puddle. They start to developp the now famous surk skates that behave just like a surf on the street.

Surfing bitumen like a wave is possible, thanks to surf skateboards: These short or long boards allow you to send figures like cut back, bottom turn or roller skating. Our store offers for purchase 2 brands that produce this kind of skateboard with suitable rotary axes: the Carver brand and the Yow Surfskate brand.

These boards allow skates to move forward and raise without having to put their feet on the ground, because we can transmit the energy of the legs in the special axes which will transmit to the wheels and create perpetual motion. This technique is also called pumping, and is done by resuming support and movements of the pelvis as in surfing. These sensations are incredible and convert many riders each year to this practice.

What size should you choose for your Surf Skate board? The sizes are generally indicated in inches, knowing that the small models are 28 inches or 71 cm and the longer models about 33 inches or 83 cm. The shorter a board, the more it will be reactive and offer a lot of stimulus when you are going to "pump", but it will also be a little less stable in case of speed gain.

A longer board offers better comfort in cruising, for long distances, but will turn wider and be a little less fun if you want to have fun chaining turns quickly. you have to imagine the difference between a fairly short surfboard and a paddle board, to understand the difference that you will find on the road.
For a beginner or a tall person, we recommend taking a board between 30 and 33 inches to favor stability and comfort. For expert riders, who want to park or smaller than 1.75m , it will be more interesting to start on a board less than 30 inches.

The best known axes are the C7 axes with a rotation of the front axis which gives it its particularity. It is possible to adjust the rigidity of the axis in order to give it more or less resistance on the thrusts. The more an axis will resist, the less it will be subject to vibrations at high speed and it will also adapt to heavyweight riders. You should know that this kind of skateboarding is not very suitable for descents because the front axle pivots and can cause loss of control in the event of a wooble, which is an uncontrolled vibratory oscillation of the board which resembles a roll.
