How to choose the right ski boots?

First of all, remember that an appointment at the store is highly recommended in order to organize a free analysis of your feet by our bootfitters and to provide you with the best pair of boots, thank you to come with your ski socks, and your soles if you have them.

# Which shoe model to choose?

First of all you will need to bring your old shoes and to appropriate the size in MONDO POINT (ex 25,5 Mondo is approximately 40), to note this reference in order to choose the right size of shoe, if you do not know this size, better to come to the store or refer to our size guide.

Note however that depending on the shape of your foot, the shoes may be the right size, but not the right width, this is when you will try to decipher your old shoe to find the LAST, i.e. the width to the metatarsals, if you twist it, try to find a shoe that fits, or come to the store to have your foot measured.

Then there will be the flex of the boot, a small flex, around 60 for adults, is a soft flex, easy to bend, on the contrary a high flex, around 140 will be a rigid flex, needing more force to bend the boot, so made for more experienced skiers.

# Why do I have pain in my ski boots?

You have to understand that finding the right boot for your feet is not easy, lucky are those who just need to put their feet in a boot to say that it's the right one, for the vast majority of people, it will be necessary to find subterfuges to improve the comfort in the boot, after finding the boot that fits the best, often there is a missing sole to fill the void under the arch of the foot and to wedge the foot so that it does not sag.

For others it is the width of the shoe that is too small or too large, in the case of too small, we can perform a thermoforming, or have the shell directly at the store, for the cases of shoes too wide, we open to fill the gap with soles specially designed for the shape of your arch.

Finally, most often, it is the length that is the problem, a boot that is too big will be less precise, more comfortable, but too loose in real skiing situations, contrary to a boot that is too small, the blood flow is stopped, the cold sets in quickly because the foot is no longer irrigated, and your feet quickly hurt.

Tongue problems also in relation to the tibia can be stopped by a sock with silicone gel reinforcement available in the shop.

# Can I come to the store for a Bootfitting if I didn't buy my shoe at Sportmania?

Of course, at Sportmania we have professional bootfitters, trained by SIDAS and TECNICA technicians.

First of all, we can provide you with a free foot analysis to measure your feet and your skiing history. Please bring your boots, ski socks and ski soles if you have them.

This process allows us to put small plastic cleats on the feet, to heat the boots and thus create a compression of the boots, this method allows to save a few millimetres which are sufficient for the comfort of the feet.

The last method is to possess the shell directly by heating it, and by deforming the shell with a mechanical verrin, more efficient than Thermoforming, but used as a last resort absolutely.

(Thermoforming can be done directly at the store without an appointment depending on the traffic, by appointment from Tuesday to Friday, except Wednesday afternoon).
